About

Hello

I'm an Australian artist working on Kaurna Land. I work solely with low-toxic oil paint, with minimal use of harmful solvents and mediums to minimise the impact of harm to health and environment.

My work typically features botanical and figurative elements, with the intent of revealing the ever-present light, vibrancy and interconnectedness in all things.

More recently, I have shifted my focus to Buddhist commissions. I welcome the opportunity to talk with you about your creative project.

I am training for Ordination within the Triratna Buddhist Order, and thoroughly enjoying working with the Buddhist Sangha, to create images of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas to support practice.

Leah grew up in a richly planted valley, where four generations of her family cultivated an exotic plant nursery. Her earlier work explored this botanical heritage. Now, isolated from the beauty in which she grew, Leah marvels at the wonder that was once there, juxtaposed against what our world faces now; our contemporary human condition and our dislocation from nature. This theme informs Leah’s work, through subtle metaphors and narratives, utilising botanical and figurative elements.'

My process & how to work with me

Fortunately, prior to obtaining my Bachelor of Visual Art, I trained as a Graphic Designer. So my process begins in a digital way, using Photoshop. Patrons share information, stories and images with me. I then compose every element to create a whole, yet very rough and malleable digital image. From here we can Zoom, share screens and edit all the different elements as we talk it through together. This may need to happen several times, but ultimately it is better to edit at this digital stage rather than through the painting process. I am committed to ensuring that my patrons are completely satisfied with the finished result.

I was so delighted with the painting, it was a deepening spiritual exploration for me to clarify and explore with Leah the inspiration for the image and its symbols. The process with Leah's artistic inputs enabled a much deeper connection for me with Milarepa. - Dh Gambhiraja
